What began as Argor SA in Chiasso became Argor-Heraeus through a 1986 joint venture with UBS and Heraeus, and has operated from Mendrisio since 1988. Heraeus Precious Metals has held full ownership since 2017.

Argor-Heraeus has been an LBMA member since 1961 and is one of a small panel of refiners appointed to referee the London Good Delivery standard for gold, silver, platinum and palladium.
